Ivy Hageman, LMSW

Hello. Welcome!

Hi, I’m Ivy. I’m glad you’re here.

If you’ve been feeling anxious, disconnected, or unsure of who you are or how you feel lately, you’re in the right place. Many of my clients describe feeling stuck in patterns that don’t reflect who they want to be anymore. My goal is to create a space where you can slow down, make sense of your inner world, and feel more at home in your mind and body.

My Approach to Therapy

Therapy with me is conversational, collaborative, and human. You don’t have to mask, over-explain, or pretend you have it all together. My approach is trauma-informed and compassion-focused, integrating somatic practices and practical tools to support sustainable change. I strive to make therapy a space where you feel supported, understood, and able to show up as your full self.

I draw from Compassion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and holistic practices to deepen self-compassion, reduce shame, and help you (re)connect with what matters most.

Education and Background

I completed my education and training in North Carolina and Tennessee before moving to Maryland. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from East Tennessee State University and my Bachelor’s in Child Development from Peace College. I’m also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and a Holistic Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (INN).

Before private practice, I worked with children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities at nonprofits and in a therapeutic group home, experiences that taught me the power of compassion and consistency. My path to graduate school wasn’t linear but those years gave me perspective that deeply shapes how I show up with clients today. My clinical experience includes supporting teens and adults in outpatient care providing individual and family therapy.

Areas of Focus

I support teens, young adults, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, self-esteem, body image, life transitions, relationships, trauma, invisible/chronic illness, and self-discovery.

Who I Work Well With

I work well with teens, young adults, and adults who:

  • Feel “high-functioning” on the outside but overwhelmed or disconnected on the inside

  • Experience self-doubt, overthinking, or self-criticism that’s hard to turn off

  • Identify as neurodivergent and/or feel stuck in the loop between executive dysfunction and low mood

  • Feel like they’ve lost themselves in a relationship, school, career, or routine and want to reconnect with what matters

  • Curious about who they are beyond societal expectations about productivity, appearance, and acceptability

  • Struggle with school stress, social dynamics, or feeling different

  • Struggle with body image, body trust, or feeling disconnected from their physical self

  • Navigate the challenges of invisible illness or chronic symptoms that others can’t see but deeply impact daily life

I welcome anyone who resonates with my therapeutic style. There’s space here for you to explore, grow, and come home to yourself.

Fun-ish Facts About Me

  • I am a stereotypical millennial dog mom. I have a Golden Retriever and a Bernese Mountain Dog who are very spoiled
  • I have a large houseplant collection some of which are visible during our sessions
  • I love exploring new bookstores and coffee shops.
  • I’m an enthusiastic believer in the art of dilly-dallying and consider it a form of self-care
  • I found my way into therapy work because my own challenges nudged (okay, shoved) me toward healing and I wanted to help others feel less alone on that path
